Spring is here and the time has come to learn and grow! Come to the Barony of An Dubhaigeainn for our Spring Schola, hosted by the Science Fiction Forum on the Stony Brook University Campus.
We invite you to take part in the fun by taking any number of classes to learn a new skill, or participating in one of our Baronial Championships!
Classes will be held throughout the day with a display table showcasing the skills of our populace for our Baronial Arts and Sciences championship, live performances by those who wish to compete for Baronial Bardic champion, and Baronial Court to end the day.
The rules and themes for our A&S and Bardic competitions are detailed below.

We will be welcoming potluck food (no plug in warmers or sternos please) in place of a traditional dayboard.

A&S Competition
For this year’s Baronial arts and sciences competition the theme is “Old and New”.
Time to complete an unfinished project you have laying around and use up some of the supplies you have stockpiled. If you do not have an unfinished project, I don’t believe you, but you can collaborate to finish a project started by someone else.
We will be using the East Kingdom arts and sciences grading rubric, so please take a moment to familiarize yourself with it before the event.

Bardic Competition
This year’s bardic competition theme is ‘A Moment of Triumph.’ Share with us a time in your life that filled you with pride, accomplishment, or victory. Whether you choose to express it through song, storytelling, or poetry, let us hear your tale of triumph!

Come learn how to make books with one of the oldest and easiest bookbinding techniques. All materials will be provided but feel free to bring any fancy paper you want to use for a cover. - Guild Meeting – An Dubh Cooks Guild – Vetra Trys Kaukoles

We will learn about the equipment needed to start brewing, and the basic brewing process. I will share some simple recipes. An interactive quiz game with fabulous prizes will take place at the end of this class. - The Game of Senet: Fighting for your soul in the afterlife – Fearghus Mac Cailin
In this class, Baron Fearghus will discuss the history and rules for the Ancient Egyptian game of Senet. We will discuss how it changed over the years, its role in Egyptian funerary rituals, and how we believe it is played. Copies of the game will be available for all attendees to play (2 player game). - The Medieval Apothecary: Herbal Traditions, Tonics, and Tisanes of the Middle Ages – Vigdís Eldr
Step into the world of the medieval apothecary and explore the rich history of herbal medicine in the Middle Ages. This class will delve into the foundational principles of medieval herbalism, examining how plants were used for healing, wellness, and daily life. Participants will learn about the role of apothecaries, monastic gardens, and folk medicine in medieval society. Through hands-on experience, we will craft traditional tisanes (herbal infusions) and tonics inspired by historical recipes, blending both knowledge and practice.

An introduction to the basics of English Country Dance, with participatory performances of Rufty Tufty, Black Nag, and Sellingers Round.
Location and Parking Details:
The event will be in the Student Union Ballroom, in the Stony Brook Union Building. There is a parking lot directly behind the building, listed as paid parking, but no payment needed on the weekend.
