St. Andrew’s Goes Beyond the Pale: Port of Calais

Link to the official East Kingdom Event page for this event: St. Andrew’s Goes Beyond the Pale: Port of Calais

Site Opens: 10:00am and Site Closes: 9:00pm

Join the celebration of the unique culture of Barony An Dubhaigheainn as our patron saint, St. Andrew, goes beyond the Pale and sets off from the port of Calais on the last leg of his six year journey, winding his way back to York, England for next year’s Baronial Investiture!

The Pale of Calais fell under English rule for two hundred years after the Treaty of Brétigny on October 25, 1360, which marked the end of the Hundred Years War.  The Pale was historically part of Flanders whose official capital is Brussels.  Join us to enjoy the intersection of French, Flemish, Belgium and Dutch influences!

Activities

Garb Challenge: The Pale was well known for its important role in medieval textile trade.  We invite the populace to wear their fanciest finery and show off for all who attend.  Bring personal tokens to give to the individuals who impress you the most!

Don’t have personal tokens? We’re setting up a DIY table with craft supplies for you to make your own to give out! Everyone who participates will be asked to stand in Court to be recognized. Let’s have some fun!

Baronial Heavy Weapons Rattan Championship : The tournament to determine the next Baronial Rattan Champion will be the main event of the day! The tournament is open to all gentles but only a resident of An Dubhaigheiann can be named champion by their Excellencies.  If a gentle from outside of the barony wins the tournament, they receive a prize.  The Baronial Rattan Champion will be chosen by the Coronet based on courtesy, comportment, and overall standing in the tournament. Here’s more information about the tournament format from the current Champion, Sir Brick James Beech.

Eanraig’s challenge – Don Eanraig the Bonesetter is sponsoring a best use of footwork challenge during the tourney. Voted by populace, their Excellencies and myself. There will be a prize presented in Court to the winner.

Fencing and Dancing Class: Don Eanraig the Bonesetter will teach a class on footwork and conditioning exercises open to all fencers and dancers (or anyone who needs to improve their agility and conditioning).  A small dagger or sword, 20 inches or less, is suggested to be brought to class. Class will be outdoors, if the weather permits, or indoors in the hall during the afternoon.

Silk Painting Class: Come gather to enjoy an hour of painting Calais Swans and Fleur de Lis with Lady Laurie Anne Parr! Supplies will be provided and enjoyment is encouraged!

Youth Activities: Join Caterina Lombardi for painted glass picture frames!
