Spring Schola 2024 At The University: Duckvinci!

The official East Kingdom Event announcement is here: https://www.eastkingdom.org/event-details/?eid=4264

Join the Barony of An Dubhaigeainn at our annual Spring Schola!  This year’s Schola will be held at Stony Brook University on SUNDAY, April 7, 2024.  Our Ducks are being welcomed back by the members of the Science Fiction Forum to share our knowledge and talents with the University community.

We invite you to take part in the fun by taking a class to learn a new skill, or participating in one of our Baronial Championships!

Classes will be held throughout the day with a display table showcasing the skills of our populace for our Baronial Arts and Sciences championship, live performances by those who wish to compete for Baronial Bardic champion, and Baronial Court to end the day.

The rules and themes for our A&S competition is thus from Don Laird Eanraig the Bonesetter, current Baronial Champion of A&S:

As your A and S Champ, just a quick shout to give a heads up on the upcoming champions’ challenge. The hunt for Christalmo continues…so this year’s challenge is WHALING themed. Anything pertaining to whaling- art, science, the hunt, marine lore, use of whale related products in period. Put forth your best research, looking forward to what the Barony has to give! I will be making a commemorative glass for the New Champ, Christalmo themed. Thank you for your indulgence, Eanraig.

The theme for our Bardic Competition from Dame Hugoline the Delicate, current Bardic Champ (and Baroness!):

In keeping with this year’s theme “Schola at the University: DuckVinci” and the location  at Stony Brook University, this year’s challenge for the Bardic Championship is a lesson learned.  Any type of performance is welcome, song, story, recitation of a poem, dance, magic trick, all performances are welcome.  All performances should be period, or SCA appropriate.

Winners will be chosen by the Coronet who will take into account the response of the populace.  Winners must reside with the Barony of an Dubhaigeainn.

We’re going to be putting up signs that say “SCA” with an arrow on them to guide you to the SAC. The campus map right on the Stony Brook site is linked below for your reference.
Look at section C4 – you’ll see the “Student Activities Center” or SAC right in the middle there.
Off to the left, in box B4 you’ll see “Parking Lot 13” which is where we should park, as parking rules are not enforced in that lot on the weekends.
Please contact the Event Steward, Vigdis Eldr, directly (schola@andub.eastkingdom.org) if you have special parking needs, like handicapped access, or if you have to unload before you park.
